Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance

I am bumping this post up yet again because I am reminded of the value and transcendental truth of this simple saying.

The first time I heard that adage from two young guys named Hollis and Carter, it was like someone slapped me upside the head and it was game changer for me.

As some of you may know, I have been involved in what has become a rather large software project that as they often do, is taking a bit longer to put together than we had hoped, yet is still on track for doing what we had planned it to do and more. In fact Beta is actually starting for real.  Mind blowing comes to mind.

What we planned for it to do is basically make everything that I had cussed various Web designers, Programmers and pieces software out for and make it easy to do for an amateur. That is make it easy to put together Websites, Blogs, Sales and Squeeze pages, and Shopping Carts for someone with no technical skills whatsoever.

Basically we wanted to give someone who’s sole technical skill was to check their email, the ability to create what normally only professional Website developers and Programmers could do at a huge cost, and on top of that, be able to do it in a few hours, not in a few days or weeks that it would take a Pro to do.

Guess what? We freakin pulled it off and I think it is going to be a game changer as far as how Websites, Blogs, Landing Pages, and profitable online businesses are put together.

My point about bringing this up is that this never could have happened had we not planned to do this at the outset. Regardless of how many people said it could never be done, if we had not properly planned it out, it would not have been brought into being and we would have ended up with just another piss poor piece of software.

The impact was so great on me personally perhaps  because in the Organization People Pattern(tm) of my Personality Language(tm) profile, I am a Free Spirit and I never used to like to really plan anything because it bugged the heck out of me. I know the reason why and it was mostly because I was rebelling against the rigid Structurists that were around me.

By the way, if you have not read the book Personality Language yet, I highly suggest it. It is kind of mind blowing as to what it will tell you about what makes you and others tick. I learned more in that book about basic human behavior than any other book that I have read.

Back to the 7 Ps. What I finally realized that if you don’t have Prior Proper Planning you are almost always doomed to Piss Poor Performance in everything you do in Business and in life to some degree. That is to say if you don’t know the desired outcome you want and know the steps you need to take to get there, you won’t arrive anywhere close to your goal.

Kind of like going across country on a deadline and not having a map. Yet, I used to do it all of the time. So now, I just take out a piece of paper and write down what I need to get done, some specific steps in order to accomplish it and bam, things get done.

Amazingly easy but it does work and I highly suggest it. ALSO, I highly recommend that you use Bubbl.us ! to set up Mind Maps and Blueprints of your plan. . Here is a link that shows you what it can do. It is free.

An interview with the author of the new book “Personality Language” Marilyne Woodsmall

I did this interview when this book first came out and I see that there a few people have picked on just how valuable this really is and are starting to teach it. But, why not get it from the Horse’s mouth so to speak instead.

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to “recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Shortly after the Thanksgiving Proclamation was written, it was lost for 130 years. The original document was written in long hand by William Jackson, secretary to the President, and was then signed by George Washington. It was probably misplaced or mixed in with some private papers when the US capitol moved from New York to Washington, D.C. The original manuscript was not placed in the National Archives until 1921 when Dr. J. C. Fitzpatrick, assistant chief of the manuscripts division of the Library of Congress found the proclamation at an auction sale being held at an art gallery in New York. Dr Fitzpatrick purchased the document for $300.00 for the Library of Congress, in which it now resides. It was the first official presidential proclamation issued in the United States.

If you have never read this, you are in for a treat. While there has been much revisionist history concerning what Thanksgiving is and was all about, here is the REAL story. A hint (The triumph of Capitalism that saved the Pilgrims and therefore the US of A and you and me too!)

The Real Story Behind Thanksgiving

Did you know that the first [Plymouth Colony Pilgrim's] Thanksgiving was a celebration of the triumph of private property and individual initiative?

William Bradford was the governor of the original Pilgrim colony, founded at Plymouth in 1621. The colony was first organized on a communal basis, as their financiers required. Land was owned in common. The Pilgrims farmed communally, too, following the “from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs” precept.

The results were disastrous. Communism didn’t work any better 400 years ago than it does today. By 1623, the colony had suffered serious losses. Starvation was imminent.

Bradford realized that the communal system encouraged and rewarded waste and laziness and inefficiency, and destroyed individual initiative. Desperate, he abolished it. He distributed private plots of land among the surviving Pilgrims, encouraging them to plant early and farm as individuals, not collectively.

The results: a bountiful early harvest that saved the colonies. After the harvest, the Pilgrims celebrated with a day of Thanksgiving — on August 9th.

Unfortunately, William Bradford’s diaries — in which he recorded the failure of the collectivist system and the triumph of private enterprise — were lost for many years. When Thanksgiving was later made a national holiday, the present November date was chosen. And the lesson the Pilgrims so painfully learned was, alas, not made a part of the holiday.

Happily, Bradford’s diaries were later rediscovered. They’re available today in paperback. They tell the real story of Thanksgiving — how private property and individual initiative saved the Pilgrims.

This Thanksgiving season, one of the many things I’m thankful for is our free market system (imperfectly realized as it is). And I’m also grateful that there are increasing numbers of Americans who are learning the importance of free markets, and who are working to replace government coercion with marketplace cooperation here in America and around the world.

I have made it a priority to give him every bit of coaching in me that I have.  He is a sharp guy and before the age of 21, had worked with both Apple and Google on projects.

Well specifically on Mind Feed, I do some  every day. It is as important as eating and exercising.  I usually spend 20 minutes first thing in the morning reading something positive and that I can learn from.  I also make it a point to hang around other positive minded, successful people.

I really limit the Nego-My- Eggo types with a passion.  Why hang around negative people at all? It serves no purpose. You only reinforce a despicable and non-productive behavior and it saps you of energy to create and do positive things.  My conclusion is that every person that you come in contact with you ha a positive or negative effect on you. But it is only the degree to either side of the equation that changes.

If you watch the news or listen to any of the vast majority of Politicians, or as I am forever here on out going to spell it as Poluticians, because all they do it pollute the air with lies and stupidity for the most part, then Negativity is about all you hear out of the latest crop.

The tone out of Washing and State Capitals is negative as well is the news on the Economy.  The Economy was caused by those same Negative Dooffuses in the first place, so, go figure.

For those of you that remember, and for those of you that don’t, one of the many good things you can say about Ronald Regan, was the he made people feel better about themselves and their country and the possibility of themselves taking control of their lives to make a better one.  Not only just for themselves, but their children and grandchildren.  This was after Jimmy Carter had both inflation and interest rates at about 20% and the world thought we were done for.

He never talked down to people, he never said anything bad about the US, he never said anything bad about businesses or never tried to pit one American against another. He only said good things. He gave people hope that things would truly get better.  And they got better indeed.  Because of this and what he did by lowering taxes, slashing government, empowering individuals and giving them hope, he helped create 21 million jobs.

He understood that positive Mind Feed was the basis for getting things done period.

You should understand it as well and it can make a huge difference in your business and the rest of your life.

• Get a good book and read  a little every day.  Make it part of your routine.
• Hang around other positive successful people
• Put together a Mastermind group that you can run ideas by

First off you need to tell yourself that you do indeed have it.  You need to get rid of any niggling doubts that you may have.  You need to forget every single negative thing that has been said to about failure, about being careful, about not being smart enough, or having enough education, or that you are the wrong sex, color, race or whatever other stupidity has been foisted on you by stupid ignorant people

There are a bunch of them out there.  Many well intentioned and yet still like a bullet aimed at your head, it will still have the same impact.  If you not a millionaire yet or well off by whatever standard you want to use to measure it, then you need to try this before you knock it.

I want you to write out something along these lines before you go to bed and then read this every morning for the next size months first thing in the morning.

“I have a what it takes to be successful.  I am smart, successful, and I attract wealth and help people that deserve being helped and in return, the universe helps me to get what I want.”

Feel free to add more to this by all means. But make sure every bit of it is positive and is something that you can believe in…  You may or may not want to share this with anyone else.

Now does this mean that you don’t have to work smart and do the things that you need to succeed?  NO of course not, but if you don’t have this part down, I can guarantee that you are not going to succeed no matter what you do.

You really do have what it takes.  You are smart enough, you are bright enough, you do indeed have what it takes to succeed.   Successful people read blogs, they want to improve themselves.  Don’t believe anyone that tells you that you don’t have what it takes.  Just know that people that tell you otherwise are just projecting their own self-assessment on you.  Run, do not walk away from them as fast as you can.

Other truly  successful people will only tell you that you can succeed and offer encouragement..   They will help you meet and succeed your goals.

Those are the people that you need to start hanging around with starting right now.  Go write this down tonight before you go to bed and go out and meet one other successful person.

It will dispel the myth about long copy that I see ignorantly bandied about these days.  It  shows you why it is good and how personal stories focused on your niche can really help sales.  The things that he talks about in this book  still work today.   Most people don’t have a clue as to who he is or use his techniques.  Now you don’t have to be one of them.

The Art Of Money Getting by PT Barnum is about as a good of a self-help book for business people there is.  You will note that it is the basis for many of the new ones that have been written recently.

Words and Phrases that sell is a handy guide you can use when writing any sales copy that you have.  Imagine having words that compel people to purchase your product at your fingertips!  This one is edited by yours truly.

Then there is the Google guide to Search Engine Optimization.  Read it, learn it, use it and it will help with traffic to your site.
