PayPal Can Make Or Break Your Business

Now, I am not one to step in an bash companies for making mistakes as we all make them from time to time and for the most part, I really like PayPal. But…

I have recently been involved with a company that has had their PayPal account restricted without warning. When I mean restricted, PayPal is allowing money to go into the account, but won’t let them access it or pay bills out of it or have access to any of the money in the account and we are not talking about a few hundred dollars here but thousands.

Pretty jacked up I know. Now I had heard of things happening like this before, but never had been an eye witness to it. Now these guys don’t sell anything on Ebay or offer digital downloads or anything and they have been paying $60 per month for Payments Pro and Virtual Terminal for over a year.

The thing that bothers me the most is that they have not been able to get a straight answer out of PayPal for days as to why the account was restricted or what is exactly needed to get it unfrozen. And they have not been able to talk to an actual person that can tell them specifically what they need to unfreeze the account. It seems that they had never manually processed a credit card up until now and that apparently triggered it.

What You Should Do

My advice is to use www. Squareup.com to process your credit cards an only use PayPal to take in subscription payments or set up payment buttons if that is the case. You need to have more than one alternative for bringing in money. Now this may seem like a pain in the ass, but trust me, it is far better than what I am seeing happening with this company.

Since they do a sizable portion of their business through PayPal, to say that it has hurt their business dramatically is an understatement.

If this can happen to them, trust me, it can happen to you and you need to have a back up plan for funding. Make sure you look around at authorize.net and others.

While I have not had problems with my account, this does give me no small concern about what could happen.

To be fair, I will try and contact PayPal and see if I can get the full story.

I will also being doing some research on PayPal alternatives for you too and post them. Now PayPal may indeed have a legitimate reason to request information from these guys and be that as it may, it is the worst case of customer service I have seen out of a company communications wise in some time. They have spoken to at least 12 different people and spent hours on the phone trying to get to the bottom of things over the past week to no avail and all they keep getting is a form letter asking for the same info they have supplied several times. They also got different information from different people about what they should and should not provide informaiton wise. Like I said, jacked up.

Will keep you posted on this so that you can perhaps avoid this huge pot hole and keep your fingers crossed for them.

Cheers,

Andrew “Easy” Anderson

Internet Experts Usually Aren’t!

This extends to all Internet “Xperts” as I like to call them. Same for offline ones too! And I am not just talking about the newbies here. Everyone is a clown when you first start out, even me. Yes, I blew up clients and myself several times. But you dust yourself off, repair the damage and learn and improve.

But the vast majority of the people in Social Media right now do not know their rear end’s from first base. And I am talking the Big Boy PR firms and the like.

Got to love Gary Vaynerchuk and I could not agree with him more.

And this is a continuation…

And finally this response to some of the feedback from the first video.

OK, I have said this before, but if you are going to put up a crappy Website that sucks, at least do it right. Please follow these 5 rules.

1.) Go ahead and have a mostly black or dark Website with white text if you really don't want to sell anything.

2.) Put some lame ass logo that size of Texas right at the top that does nothing other than tell anyone visiting you care more about you then helping them. Make sure it is not the least bit intriguing or better yet, dollar signs or fast cars right at the top. Or better yet, a big old picture of you

OK, I have said this before, but if you are going to put up a crappy Website that sucks, at least do it right. Please follow these 5 rules.

1.) Go ahead and have a mostly black or dark Website with white text if you really don’t want to sell anything. Most people don’t know this, so don’t feel too bad.

2.) Put some lame ass logo that size of Texas right at the top that does nothing other than tell anyone visiting you care more about you then helping them. Make sure it is not the least bit intriguing or better yet, dollar signs or fast cars right at the top. Or better yet, a big old picture of you holding dollar bills.

3.) Make it really hard to find out how much your stuff costs. Make them hunt and hunt or better yet, fill out out a lengthy ill designed form for a quote! Use confusing navigation for extra points.

4.) Have a really busy back ground and smoosh all of your info together and use really hard to read text, like cursive or ones with serifs and don’t use any white space between elements. Use at least 6 colors too.

5.) Last but not least, start right off with a sales page and put pop ups on your page. Got to love both of those in combination. And for Pete’s sake, don’t show or demonstrate that you can solve any of the visitors problems. Go right into the hard pitch to sell your stuff!

Follow 1 or more of these 5 simple rules and your site will certainly suck. The reason I know this is because I have done a few of these. But I read enough Sales books to never commit sin number 1. So, now you know how to make your site suck and if you want to make it not suck, then don’t do any of these.

Cheers,
Andrew “Easy” Anderson

PS Now of course you know I say all of this in jest and there are exceptions to some of these rules. But don’t do this stuff folks. It is that simple.

Bashing Success And Apologizing For Exceptionalism

You must have heard by now that Apple has a few issues with the iPhone unless you were living in a cave. Well, by all accounts if you get your news from the LameStream media, you would think that every iPhone is terrible and that the Government should step in to help the poor hapless consumer.

Well, guess what. I know of at least four people that have the new phone and try as they might, they can’t reproduce the issue. And they have asked friends who have it and no joy on being able to create the issues with the phone going out when you touch a certain part of it.

What does this mean? Well, I think it is a commentary on the predatory nature of media towards tearing anyone down that is successful or for the gall of being Exceptional and that bad news sells. I like to call them soul suckers … LOL . They want to portray anyone that is successful as bad, be it an individual or a business and especially businesses.

It extends to also saying that no one is better than another. My answer to that is poppy cock. Of course there are many people better than others and we should hold that Exceptionalism up as a guiding light, not try and tear it down. But this is always used by weak minds and souls. It is always from someone that is not truly exceptional in their own heart or mind. So, they want to tear Exceptional-ism down and have us believe that is does not exist.

This of course I have noticed started in DC recently and continues there every day. Big business is bad, rich people are bad, Wall Street is bad, or whomever they don’t agree with at that moment or they want to shake down, they are all greedy for looking out for themselves, their employees, their stockholders, etc.

However you will notice that we are supposed to believe that a all Government is good and the only way that we can possibly survive is to let them make all of our own decisions because we are not smart enough to use common sense. We are supposed to also believe that Big Bad Business and Greedy Rich people and not the Government spending your great grand child’s money is the real cause of the mess we are in economically. Does anyone really believe that who has an iQ higher than 10?

Some businesses are bad, but most are very good. Some Government is good and it used to be that the majority was good although we may be nearing a tipping point here. There is actually a proven mathematical model that proves how this happens. But that is another post.

When point in fact, that many Americans work for those big bad businesses and rich people and if it was not for them and them being able to gather money, they would not hire people, there would not be stocks to invest your retirement money. Rich people and people becoming successful are the solution to what is going on, not the cause.

But this is honestly nothing new and there is a lesson here for all of us.

Now this may be a bit controversial, but one of the most brilliant marketing minds out there was Joseph Goebbels the propagandist (marketer) for Germany. The first sentence is the important part. I give you the rest for context. Goebbels said he learned his techniques from Woodrow Wilson ( a truly evil man in my opinion) and his man George Creel a journalist who headed up the US “Committee On Public Information”, or our first true Government propaganda office here in the US of A. Edward Louis Bernays was in on this too and a lot of the ideas of shaping public opinion was his. He was the nephew of Sigmund Freud who I believe denounced Wilson’s whole regime.

This whole group was a bunch of egotistical elitist progressive bastards to put it mildly. But, man did they know how to market!

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” – Joseph Goebbls

Why You Have To Be Aware

There is an orchestrated attack who’s drum is beat everyday about business and free markets, and economic freedom in general. The reason why this is important is that you need to watch and learn from this for you marketing and yet to be aware to tune these things out and to not believe these things from a propaganda stand point for your business.

There is a lot of propaganda being bandied about as facts on many fronts including financial. And yet, you must make your decisions based on information, but only good information can lead to good decisions.

You can’t afford to run your business or your life for that matter based on erroneous information and you can learn from these techniques that they use because they do work!

Keep your message simple and keep repeating it. These techniques can be used for good and not just evil.

Now back to the Success Bashing as I like to call it. Don’t buy into it. It is not true nor is it helpful to your mindset or success. See my previous post on the Pygmalion Effect.

Have a Profitable Day! Have a Profitable Day! Have a Profitable Day! Have a Profitable Day! Have a Profitable Day! Have a Profitable Day!

Cheers,

Because as I have noted, when I go to a site, usually as sales site, I try and leave the page. If they have one, I don’t bother ready the rest of it accept on very rare occasions.

I put them on my you just wasted a couple seconds of my life list and I don’t want to have anything to do with whatever you are selling list.

Pop Ups are kind of like the Disco Balls, they were really cool for a little while, but if you put them everywhere they are a bit annoying and it is like having one in your office to show how “cool” you are.

So, if you visit a site that has one, please post a comment with a link to it here. Some of them are more annoying than others. The ones that you have to keep clicking to leave.

Here is one I got via email. Lovely…

Jeff Paul $1,805 in 10 daysl

Not only that but it auto-loaded itself at start up and it took me four tries to uninstall it.

The only reason I am putting this out there is I have seen a ton of ads in my email for a free 30 day trial for lately for it. While I am truly not happy with the pricing for the other products out there, as all of them have raised their prices without any improvement in service, Dim Dim is not ready for prime time yet.

Inc. Magazine even supposedly said is was the best Web Conferencing. For whom? Ex-crack heads? Whoops, I had better be careful about saying that, as there are too many politicians that had admitted to using crack. Or maybe that explains it!

Seriously though, I think they need to spend another month or two in development before they go out again. But then again, perhaps they are following the Microsoft model of, let’s get it out the door and fix it later.

Dim Diim has more bugs in it than a dog at a flea circus. Looks like it has potential, but don’t use it unless you want to be frustrated and to have your attendees have a bad experience. It is not intuitive, and the” show screen option” is not re-sizable and the recording of Webinar is clugey. If they fix it, I will gladly repost. Dim Dim, if you want to contact me to help fix it, please let me know. I will give you the friends and family rate. Seriously, I do think it could be a great product once they get the bugs fixed. But it is not there now.

In the meantime, they should pay you to try their free 30 day trial. Arghh…

Cheers,
Andrew

Regardless of how great it is, the odds of them seeing their sales go down are about 98% to 99% and going up only 1% to 2%. This is actually predictable if you have the knowledge of behavior modeling of your purchasing base or just a fancy way of saying, knowing your customers. But, there is a special area of study that most marketers do not know about.

Would you like to know why? If so, I am about to let you in on a very little known secret that could have saved Domino’s millions of dollars in research and more than likely 10′s of millions of dollars in future lost sales.

If you have read my blog for a while here you have heard me speak about Marilyne and Wyatt Woodsmall. They are some of the world’s leading human behavior modelers.

Marilyne and Wyatt created and developed a system called Personality Language. They modeled how people make decisions, what motivates them, how they communicate with others and the best way to communicate with them to get people to do the things you want. Pretty powerful stuff that only a select group of marketing wonk’s and top end performers in various fields have heard about.

There are also some sales rules they are breaking that will add to the situation.

Now I hate to be a tease here, but I will give you a more detailed explanation on why I predict a train wreck for Domino’s and how they can fix this error for only $5,000.

So, I put it all in the video above. I promise you my explanation will all make sense and you won’t want to miss the rest of this story. Plus, you will see why you never, ever want to do what Domino’s is doing. Let me know what you think!

Also, I got a taste of the NEW Domino’s Pizza and I tell you what I think about it.

Cheers,

If you are planning on starting a business in any Eco friendly niche that depends on Global Warming, you had better think of something else. Man made Global Warming or Anthropological Global Warming has finally been put of my misery ( I am sick of silly people telling me "but it is real " when they never have looked at the real data and this info proves that data was made up... LOL). The Hadley CRU observations which much of the so called data came from, has been exposed to have been made up and worse.

They also falsified data used in Al Gore’s now infamous Hockey Stick graph… but most people knew that was falsified data anyway and even Al Gore admitted in an interview that it was OK to lie to make a point in something as important as this… LOL

I’d also be dumping any stock you have in “alternative energy” companies too and quickly.

A Hacker or an internal whistle blower released data from their computer network and found emails and other data that admits they were cooking the data and that they did it on purpose to promote the man made global warming theory. Not only that, they were figuring out how to get rid of the scientists that were not going along with the fraud. The funniest email that I saw was the one where they say, ” we have to figure out why global temperatures have not gone up since 1999 as it is a travesty why our models can’t account for it”… LOL Perhaps because they are wrong..Duhhh.

The fact that Billions of dollars has been spent on a hoax and not spent on saving millions of lives with vaccines or just put back in your pocket is what bothers me most about this. This is money that you and your family need. That and the fact that most politicians have known this for years. OK, maybe not, most of them are pretty stupid.

But the truth is only a small portion of scientist were buying into it anyway. At least serious ones. As a weather Geek the whole theory has been laughable for some time as the non-cooked data from the satellites have shown that we quit warming up in 1999.

If you are a little bit geeky, you can go here for some info on that. http://www.Wattsupwiththat.com Great blog by and ex TV weatherman out of Chico, CA won the science blog of the year last year. Great source for kids and anyone that really wants to know what is going on from a Meteorological standpoint.

Here you if you have not heard about what went on with the Hadley CRU here you go. As far as I know this has not gotten a lot of coverage in the Lamestream Media.. Click Here to check it out.

By the way, Fox is the only cable network that would put any of the scientists that could dispute it. The rest have been bought and paid for, for quite some time by the status quo

And God forbid if you want to talk about that lack of science behind it. You will get called names first and foremost…. always the first thing that those without logic do… destroy the messenger… facts be damned.. LOL.

Here is probably one of the best videos explaining how damning what they did really is in layman’s terms.

It shows how they covered up the actual decline in temperatures… That is right, the temperatures have been going down since 1998-1999.

And also how they kept out dissenting views from being published even though there are only about 2,500 scientists that believed the theory and over 30,000 that do not.

Here is a link to the Petition of 30,000 scientist that dispute global warming. Here is the founder of the Weather Channel disputing Global Warming…

http://www.petitionproject.org/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfHW7KR33IQ

The kicker is these folks are out to steal you and your children’s money and future…. plain and simple. You don’t have to let it happen and in fact I think that it really is finally dead.

Here is link to a video as to why…. personally I am not that keen on doubling my electric bill or ending up like the UK or the rest of Europe for that matter.

Here is an excerpt of a post that lays out in layman’s terms what has happened.

This is from http://www.norcalblogs.com/commission/archives/2009/11/men-behaving-ba.html

Thanks Lon and I hope you don’t mind the traffic!

Men Behaving Badly….

Page views for Anthony’s www.wattsupwiththat.com blog. Friday his blog was number one on WordPress beating others like CNN and People Magazine.

I’ve watched with fascination over the last couple of days as our own Anthony Watts has become part of a national media story. What was once a tiny Chico, CA blog now stands in the robust current of global issues. A British climate research unit had its computer system hacked, and the purloined emails and files quickly spread throughout the Internet. News stories then popped up on the New York Times, NPR, Fox, Drudge, UK Guardian, the BBC, and many more sites.

While Watts did not post the files, they became a topic of discussion that generated immense interest at his blog. When other web sites that cover the topic of climate change began to shut down due to traffic overload, Watts’ site remained online. This pushed him to receive over 180,000 page views on the day the story broke.

What’s the hubbub? It all comes down to men behaving badly. Emails and files related to top scientists that support man made global warming theory were released in the hacked files. These scientists have authored/co-authored many of the studies relied on by the UN IPCC, and world governments. The studies have been used to pronounce global warming an immediate, and therefore taxable, threat.

Here are some of the highlights of the documents released.

1. The scientists colluded in efforts to thwart Freedom of Information Act requests(across continents no less). They reference deleting data, hiding source code from requests, manipulating data to make it more annoying to use, and attempting to deny requests from people recognized as contributors to specific internet sites. Big brother really is watching you. He’s just not very good at securing his web site.

2. These scientists publicly diminished opposing arguments for lack of being published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. In the background they discussed black-balling journals that did publish opposing views, and preventing opposing views from being published in journals they controlled. They even mention changing the rules midstream in arenas they control to ensure opposing views would not see the light of day. They discuss amongst themselves which scientists can be trusted and who should be excluded from having data because they may not be “predictable”.

3. The scientists expressed concern privately over a lack of increase in global temperatures in the last decade, and the fact that they could not explain this. Publicly they discounted it as simple natural variations. In one instance, data was manipulated to hide a decline in temperatures when graphed. Other discussions included ways to discount historic warming trends that inconveniently did not occur during increases in atmospheric CO2.

4. The emails show examples of top scientists working to create public relations messaging with favorable news outlets. It shows them identifying and cataloging, by name and association, people with opposing views. These people are then disparaged in a coordinated fashion via favorable online communities.

What the emails/files don’t do is completely destroy the possibility that global climate change is real. They don’t preclude many studies from being accurate, on either side of the discussion. And they should not be seen as discrediting all science.

Kudos to Anthony for being there online, and being prepared to handle the traffic this topic generated. I would hope that this event would precipitate a greater openness regarding publicly funded research. It would be nice to see better adherence to scientific method. At the very least it has exposed some well funded, ivory tower thinkers, behaving very poorly.

**********************************

Arghhh. OK from and Entrepreneurial standpoint…. Don’t lie about data…. Don’t follow the herd or Sheople… And if you are a big company like Coke… don’t run TV Ads supporting Global Warming and spending Millions of dollars on something that you think will pay off on something that you could have found out not to be true or at least more than likely not true months ago by having some of your wonderful scientists just look at the data. You may have seen it… The Hopenhagen…..

Anyway… back to more money making stuff shortly… But the whole Global Wamring Fraud has had me frosted for years…

Design Dodo Award

Coke-Cola’s main Website has won the first ever Darwin Website Design Dodo Award ™ for their design of www.Coke.com .

This award is handed out for Website designs that show the best of why Dodo’s are now extinct and only live on in books and stuffed in Museums. These designs have no branches in their family tree of design and are perhaps best represented by a stick.

The reason why Coke has received the first design award is because of what I thought was a mistake, but Coke’s PR department proceeded to send the following email:

*********************

Hi Anderson,

Hope that you are well.

I’ve confirmed there is not an error on the web page, it was an intentional stylistic design decision.

Have a great afternoon.

**********************

I ended up contacting both Coke and Berkshire Hathaway which is Warren Buffett’s Company which is Coke’s largest stockholder.

The Darwin Website Design Dodo award is not given to necessarily to honest mistakes or even ugly designs, but for those designs that defy common sense. In this case, they have consciously covered up part of a Logo that could arguably be said to be worth Billions based on whimsy or someone actually not catching it. For this, Coke’s Website Designers receive the soon to be coveted Darwin Website Design Dodo Award for a Website.

Here is a picture of it. You be the judge… Click on the Image to see it full size.

You can go here to see the Coke Website Design Live for yourself.

The reason why I feel qualified to hand out this design Award is that I myself have designed some pretty darn ugly and bad designs and this will help remind me and others, perhaps even you, not to do these types of things on a Website.

If you have other designs that you would like to submit, please make a comment below. I am thinking about awarding a Darwin Website Design Dodo Award on an as needed basis, perhaps even Monthly.

Would love to hear your thoughts…

Cheers,

Anderson

PS I have to say that the PR people at both Coke and Berkshire Hathaway were very nice and helpful. I never did speak with the Website designer at Coke though. Would like to know what was running through their mind when they did this wouldn’t you?

I Am Calling Coke And Warren Buffett Again Tomorrow….

Ok, this was funny at first, but how in the world can you explain how one of the worlds most well know companies can have an error on their Website (Werror) for going on a month now?

I could understand it if it was some Mom and Pop operation, but this is a multi-billion dollar company for Pete’s sake.

Has incompetency in the Corporate world reached that of the Government Level? Man, I sure hope not.

I have to say I am sadly disappointed. Aren’t you? Ok, well not really. Perhaps just a little bit anyway.

Now please note I am picking on them because it is so easy and as the old saying goes, you can hide the truth in plain site or is that on your site? LOL

So I will try and call both Coke and Warren Buffet (Cokes single largest stockholder through Berkshire Hathaway) again tomorrow and I will let you know the outcome.

And just to keep this in proper perspective, in the scheme of things this is not a big deal, but I hope that if I do something like this, that someone lets me know.

Cheers,

Anderson

The funny thing is that Fast Company is doing a story on Coke design this month.

I am posting the video, the picture, and the iframe so that you can see of which I speak. Basically, their nav bar covers up the bottom 1/4 of their logo.

I did the vid a few weeks ago to explain what I am talking about…

Click On Image To See Full Size

This should be a live iframe of Coke to see if it is still there. If you hover over the logo, you can see what is going on.

Anyway, we shall see how much longer this continues. Who would have thunk it would be like this for over 3 weeks and no one at Coke would catch it?

Have you seen any other Werrors out there? If so, let me know about them and we will post them here. I am thinking about doing a regular feature on them once a week.

Cheers,
Anderson
